Fencing in Olive Branch, MS —
Backed by a Lifetime
Workmanship Warranty
Olive Branch writes its own fence rules, with tighter height caps than most of the Mid-South and a permit fee that is the same for every residential lot in the city. North Slope Exteriors builds to those rules and to your subdivision's covenants, then sets posts for the soil this side of the state line actually has. Every project starts with a free, no-obligation on-site quote — call (870) 218-4440 or schedule yours below.

Fencing Built for Olive Branch's Own Ordinance, Growth, and Ground
Olive Branch is not Memphis with a different address on it. The city writes its own fence ordinance with height caps tighter than most of the Mid-South, a permit fee that is flat across every residential lot, and an explicit storm-drainage rule. We work through all of it before we dig. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.
Olive Branch's Fence Ordinance
Under the Code of Ordinances Appendix A, Zoning Ordinance, Article VII, Sec. 2 — adopted March 19, 2019 and effective May 1, 2019 — front-yard fences are capped at 3 feet and side- and rear-yard fences at 6 feet. A corner-lot exception allows a 6-foot fence enclosing the rear yard to encroach into the front-yard setback only if it does not face the same street as the neighboring rear yard, sits back at least 10 feet from the street-frontage property line, creates no traffic-visibility hazard, and does not extend forward of the front corner of the principal building. Residential districts are limited to masonry, durable wood, chain-link, or pre-assembled PVC, with canvas, cloth, corrugated metal, metal plates, plastic or plexiglass, barbed wire and single-strand wire all prohibited. The residential permit fee is a flat $35, and the ordinance bars any fence that diverts or blocks natural drainage or a catch basin. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.
A City That Grew Fast
Olive Branch was incorporated in 1873, then grew from 3,567 residents in 1990 to 21,054 in 2000 — a 490 percent increase following a 1996 annexation that doubled the city's land area. It is now Mississippi's 6th most populous city at 39,711 residents per the 2020 census. That growth is why a large share of the fence work here is on newer-construction lots, where your project is layered with both the city code above and a subdivision HOA review. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.
Where the City Sits and What's Under It
Olive Branch sits on the same DeSoto County loess-over-sand-and-gravel soil formation as the rest of the Memphis area, not the Mississippi Delta expansive clay people sometimes expect. It borders Southaven directly to the west and touches the Memphis city line at its north edge, and it runs along the US-78 and Goodman Road growth corridor — where a lot of the newer corner lots trigger the corner-lot setback rule above. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.

Olive Branch Fencing Questions, Answered
Fence pricing depends on the material you choose, the linear footage of the run, how many gates you need, and the grade of your site. Because those vary so much from one Olive Branch property to the next, we do not quote from a chart. We come out, measure your property, walk the grade, and give you a free written quote with exact pricing.
Yes. Olive Branch charges a flat $35 residential fence permit fee, the same for every residential lot in the city, and the work goes through Planning Department sign-off. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.
Front-yard fences are capped at 3 feet, and side- and rear-yard fences at 6 feet. There is a corner-lot exception that allows a 6-foot fence enclosing the rear yard to encroach into the front-yard setback under specific conditions. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.
In residential districts the ordinance limits fencing to masonry, durable wood, chain-link, or pre-assembled PVC. Canvas, cloth, corrugated metal, metal plates, plastic or plexiglass, barbed wire and single-strand wire are all prohibited. We confirm the current requirement with Olive Branch's Planning Department before we build.
